- Key DifferentiatorAmerican Angler, with a circulation of 35,000 hard-core fly fishermen, provides solid “how-to” information for those seeking to master the sportfishing world’s most sophisticated angling techniques. Well-known experts and laymen alike write all articles, covering every region, every technique and every species of fish that can be taken on a fly rod. The magazine was born in 1978 as a quarterly newsletter called Fly Tyer. It struggled through several editors, owners, formats and name changes until 1992, when Abenaki Publishers acquired the publication (by then known as American Angler) and moved operations to Bennington, VT. Now owned by MCC Magazines, LLC, a division of Morris Communications Company, LLC, American Angler is based in Augusta, Ga., along with its sister publications Gray’s Sporting Journal and Fly Tyer. The magazine’s predominately male, well-educated subscribers are the most devoted fly-fishing readers in the country. American Angler is widely viewed as the best-written, best-edited, and best-looking publication in its class.

Description:
Welcome to American Angler® magazine, we are cool, different and focused. Providing dozens of trendy reads, penned by some of the most progressive outdoors writers on the planet.
Our “new school” direction aims at angling culture and personality—people who breathe fly fishing and adventure, and the places where they get their fixes, whether that’s found just outside their backdoor, or halfway around the world.
Think the New American Angler is just trout? Think again—our must-read departments and features detail anglers’ efforts to catch and protect all kinds of fish, ranging from pike and permit, to musky and marlin, to tarpon and trevally, and all species between. If it swims we’ll throw for it and relay those thrills to our readers.
Our core audience is composed of modern-day anglers—men and women—who make fly fishing a lifestyle. They are intelligent and active and want more than the obvious story we’ve all seen a hundred times before. The New American Angler doesn’t debate the best 20 ways to tie a Trico or rant about the merits of a bow-and-arrow cast; our tech-savvy readers find that information on the Web or in book form. The New American Angler provides what they can’t get anywhere else—in-depth reporting and killer writing and photography that offers a backstory and an ending.
