It is committed to upholding the First Amendment, serving as a catalyst for positive change in the community and serving readers and advertisers on the lower Eastern Shore of Maryland, on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and in Sussex County, Delaware. The Daily Times traces its origins back to 1886, when it began publication as The Wicomico News, a weekly publication in Salisbury. It became the Salisbury Daily Times on Dec. 3, 1923. On Oct. 22, 1967, it became The Daily Times. The Daily Times became a morning publication on Oct. 2, 1989. On May, 31, 1996, owners of The Daily Times purchased Atlantic Publications Inc., a group of 10 nondaily community newspapers and vacationer guides from southern Delaware to Virginia's Eastern Shore. These newspapers were the Delaware Coast Press, Delaware Wave, Delaware Beachcomber, Maryland Beachcomber, Maryland Times Press, Virginia Beachcomber, Chincoteague Beacon, Eastern Shore News, Worcester County Messenger and Somerset Herald. The Ocean Pines Independent was added to the newspaper group in June 1999. In January 2005, the Maryland Times Press and the Worcester County Messenger merged to form the Worcester County Times. On July 23, 2000, the company became part of Gannett Co. Inc., one of the nation’s leading news and information companies. In March 2002, DelmarvaNow.com was added. In autumn 2012, Delmarva Media Group added a mobile app. In April 2014, DelmarvaNow.com was overhauled, creating a better navigation experience for site visitors and a better platform for playing news and sports videos.
