Publisher: DVD Verdict - A Class Action Approach to Film Criticism
  • Key Differentiator
Hard to believe it's been 13 years already. Founded by Chicago lawyer and movie lover Sean McGinnis in April 1999, DVD Verdict has undergone many changes over the years but never lost sight of what's most important: delivering the highest quality reviews of the most diverse range of DVD and Blu-ray releases. From the biggest Hollywood blockbusters to the smallest independent films, from TV on DVD to concerts and documentaries, nobody covers the market like Verdict. With more than 24,000 reviews in the archive and 50 new reviews each week, we're the one source you can count on to learn whether or not that film is worth buying, renting, streaming, or skipping. WHAT MAKES VERDICT STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD? In addition to the diversity of product we cover, our writers possess a knowledge and passion you won't find anywhere else. With an average of more than 1,000 words a review, you get an in-depth look at these discs -- the content, the bonus features, and the audio/visual quality -- without spoiling any of the surprises... something more than a few major critics could learn from. WHO WRITES FOR VERDICT AND HOW CAN I BECOME A JUDGE? We've been blessed to work with an amazing team of writers and editors from all walks of life. These are the people who truly give Verdict its voice. Feel free to view our Judges' Bios and the tremendous work they've contributed. If you'd like to add your unique voice to our team, visit the help wanted page for all the details. HOW DO YOU CHOOSE WHAT TO REVIEW? The majority of our reviews are for product sent to us by studios, distributors, and PR firms. But several years back we made a concerted effort to welcome submissions from filmmakers themselves, looking to receive the same quality assessment of their work as their big budget peers. We've also had readers send us copies of films they'd like to see reviewed. It's true, there are gaping holes in our review catalog, but trust me when I say if we had the monetary resources, we'd cover everything that comes to market. WHERE DO I SEND A DISC TO BE REVIEWED? Michael Stailey / Verdict 22 Whitehouse Rd Rochester, NH 03867-4565 Be sure to drop Managing Editor Melissa Hansen an email to let her know it's coming. Just keep in mind, with all the product that arrives each week, we can't guarantee a quick turnaround on any given review, but we do our best to get them posted within 30 days of arrival. HOW CAN I CONTACT VERDICT? Please use the form on our Feedback page. HOW DO I BUY MOVIES FROM YOU? That's a common misperception. We don't have a storefront. It's not that we haven't thought about opening one, but the logistics and costs currently outweigh the benefits. For now, we're content with directing you towards our partner Amazon.com and its outlets throughout the world. When a disc we review isn't available through Amazon (e.g. Warner Archive), we link you to the online store you can purchase it from. CAN I BUY ADVERTISING ON DVD VERDICT? Absolutely. We currently offer several different types of advertising. To purchase ad space, contact editor-in-chief Michael Stailey. WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT INTERNET TRAFFIC? Each month, Verdict averages 350,000 unique visitors, consuming 2 Million pages of content and 30,000 podcast downloads. PODCASTS ARE GREAT BUT WHAT ABOUT OTHER AUDIO/VIDEO CONTENT? Our next step is to start offering audio versions of our daily reviews, which will be available for a nominal monthly or yearly subscription. After that, we move into video content creation. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE BIG RELAUNCH I HEARD SO MUCH ABOUT? After a falling out with the development company hired for the project, we've been forced back to the drawing board. The good news is we have a new developer on the project.
