At the very beginning of OverBlog there are 3 engineers passionate of web. We are in 2004, blogs are booming and with them, the sharing of knowledge and the transmission of knowledge explode thanks to the web. But there is a downside: only a very warned public, able to "put hands into the code", is able to create his blog autonomously ...
Our three co-founders, Frédéric, Gilles and Julien share a common vision: Everyone should be able to share their passions on the web in a single click. We need to democratize access to the blog! To do this, we have to break down the technical barrier: "We will create a super simple tool that will allow everyone to blog on their own. Even to our mothers! ".
The adventure begins in an apartment under the roofs in Toulouse. A few months later OverBlog is born, paving the way for great, eclectic, and new genres. For example the blog novel photo of stuffed toys of a Belgian mum, or even the blog of the commercial who posts a picture of his bare feet in each new city. That maaaarche!
At the same time, we choose to operate on an innovative model: revenue sharing. Unseen then, and we are always the only ones to do it. Concretely, this means that OpenBlog offers bloggers who want to post advertising on their blog. The revenues from this advertisement are then shared between OverBlog and the blogger. It's transparent, uncomplicated, and consistent with OverBlog vision.
The following years the team grew up. We strive to consolidate the existing, and develop new features that emerge as the social web explodes. Thousands, then millions of users choose OverBlog for their blog, in France, then in Italy and throughout Europe.
In parallel the uses of the web evolve, and little by little the role of the blog changes. With the explosion of social media it loses its central place in the uses of Internet users. Today we have Facebook, a Twitter, a Tumblr, a channel Youtube and sometimes a blog more. The media is multiple and it brings a great wealth. Only the pitfall: the value of our contents is dispersed, it becomes difficult to locate it.
That's why we transformed OverBlog: to give the blog its place of reference. The blog had to become the place to find all the content that is of value to you. It was necessary to shake everything up, to question us and to agree to start from scratch. In the end we are very proud of the result.
