    My Story Not so long ago my three main sources for fuel were alcohol, sugar and caffeine. But one day my body decided it had enough and totally rejected all three of my go-to pleasures. I tried to live in denial for several months about it and just accepted the rashes, lethargy, debilitating cramps and internal bleeding as no biggie. Nevermind that life was miserable, how could anyone exist without these substances? Well, little did I know my destiny was to discover that not only was it possible, there was no way around it. I'm allergic. In order to heal from chronic candida and manage PCOS I have to live a sugar-free, caffeine-free life. So this is my life now. And like any artist, I have to document my process. The result is this blog. I hope it encourages you or at least brings you some comfort and amusement if you too find yourself in a similar position of living on an elimination diet or having to eat and live clean. It's a good thing, I promise. Elimination Diet Whether you have been placed on an elimination diet by your doctor or are taking the initiative on your own because of ongoing health issues it's good to do some research before getting started. Elimination diets allow your body to recover from illness and suffering by clearing your body of foods that you may be allergic or sensitive to. You may find that it's worth to continue eating this new way long term and make it your new lifestyle. The length of following elimination diets usually vary from 21 days to 90 days. During this time you will need to eliminate alcohol, sugar, caffeine, dairy, soy, gluten, corn, and legumes. Depending on how sensitive you are, you may need to eliminate more. A good place to start is simply eating tons of veggies, low glycemic fruit (like blueberries), and lean protein like fish. It's not unusual to find occasional conflicts with certain accepted foods depending on what you read, for example beans. Some sources say that legumes are fine but most say to avoid them during the testing phase. I'd have to agree with eliminating them at least for a while because they are a common allergen. After you have given your body time to heal you can bring back foods one at a time and determine if your body is able to handle them or not. Our bodies are amazing and they will let us know one way or the other. For me, it became very clear that my body can't tolerate caffeine, alcohol, refined sugar or white flour. It's a really fascinating experience to eat this way and you will learn so much about your body. Each of us are unique individuals so what I'm fine with eating may give you migraines. Pay attention to your body, listen to it and you will begin to heal and discover that living in your skin can be wonderful.
