Brand South Africa was established in August 2002 to help create a positive and compelling brand image for South Africa. Its mandate is to develop and implement a proactive marketing and communication strategy for South Africa, promote economic competitiveness, drive trade and investment, and develop pride, patriotism, social cohesion and active citizenship among South Africans.
A number of government departments have partnered with the Brand South Africa on this campaign - ensuring that it is fully integrated and communicated. These departments include the departments of Trade and Industry (DTI), Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT), Foreign Affairs (DFA), and Home Affairs (DHA), as well as the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS). Other partners include the 2010 LOC and SA Tourism.

Brand South Africa is the official marketing agency appointed to promote the country brand. It works to create a positive, unified image of South Africa; one that builds pride, promotes investment and tourism, and helps new enterprises and job creation.
