Description:

Wake up to nature’s chorus with a bird alarm clock developed by Carnegie Museum of Natural History and The Innovation Studio. This artfully designed app is a calming, nature-inspired alternative to your usual blaring alarm. When the alarm goes off, birds begin to appear in trees to create a chorus of song. Choose from 20 birds to create a custom alarm. All of the birds are native to the northeastern United States, and users can hear their calls and learn more about them on bird cards developed with museum scientists.

Carnegie Museum of Natural History is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. The museum is an active research institution with an environmental research center in Rector, Pennsylvania called Powdermill Nature Reserve. The birds in this app were studied at the museum, are often banded at Powdermill, or are frequently impacted by window collisions—a phenomenon that the museum helps study and prevent as part of BirdSafe Pittsburgh.

The Innovation Studio is the design, development, and workflow laboratory at Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, where it supports a culture of innovation throughout the museums.

Cute idea... Can not read the numbers

This seems like such a cute idea. I downloaded it right away. However I can not read the number in order to set an alarm... illegible. Do BOO! to poor design.

Doesn't work

Volume setting is correct on my phone. Checked all settings for app. But I don't hear the alarm. Tested it with phone right next to me. No sound. Glad this was free or I'd ask for my money back. Get notifications, but no alarm.

Random?

I can't find where to set Random bird calls? Isn't that an OBVIOUS option?

Needs recurring alarms

I want this to have recurring alarms like the regular iPhone alarm app does. If I get up at 7 am every weekday, then I want to be able to set the alarm for 7 am M-F ONCE and not have to do it every night! Also, it needs to be able to cut through the "do not disturb" function. I set my phone to do not disturb instead of silent every night so that if someone needs to get me emergently they can. The regular iPhone alarm breaks through that function, as it should. This needs to as well. I can't use it until that happens.

It works great

I do not have to worry about locking my iPhone in my own house, so I am not having any trouble with the app... I live in the woods and love the birdsong from hundreds of birds that I hear in the morning. This application replicates that to a certain extent. Although I wish you could add more that 5 birds to the alarm.

Like the real thing

Wonderful melange of bird songs to get you going. Make sure you're phone volume is turned up and phone is not on silent (not on vibrate only).

Core Foundation Framework
Core Foundation is a framework that provides fundamental software services useful to application services, application environments, and to applications themselves. Core Foundation also provides abstractions for common data types, facilitates internationalization with Unicode string storage, and offers a suite of utilities such as plug-in support, XML property lists, URL resource access, and preferences.
Core Graphics
The Core Graphics framework is based on the Quartz advanced drawing engine. It provides low-level, lightweight 2D rendering with unmatched output fidelity. You use this framework to handle path-based drawing, transformations, color management, offscreen rendering, patterns, gradients and shadings, image data management, image creation, and image masking, as well as PDF document creation, display, and parsing.
Core Location Framework
The Core Location framework lets you determine the current location or heading associated with a device. The framework uses the available hardware to determine the user’s position and heading. You use the classes and protocols in this framework to configure and schedule the delivery of location and heading events. You can also use it to define geographic regions and monitor when the user crosses the boundaries of those regions. In iOS, you can also define a region around a Bluetooth beacon.

The Foundation framework provides a base layer of functionality for apps and frameworks, including data storage and persistence, text processing, date and time calculations, sorting and filtering, and networking. The classes, protocols, and data types defined by Foundation are used throughout the macOS, iOS, watchOS, and tvOS SDKs.

macOS Launch Services is an API that enables a running app to open other apps or their document files, similar to the Finder or the Dock.Launch Services eliminates apps having to query the Finder to open an app, document, or URL for them. The macOS Finder itself uses Launch Services to perform such tasks. Because the Finder performs no additional processing beyond calling Launch Services, any client using Launch Services for these purposes behaves identically to the Finder.
