WTVS Detroit Public Television is the viewer-supported PBS member station serving the nation's 11th largest television market. Our vision is to educate, entertain and inspire, in partnership with our community. We offer ten hours of PBS KIDS programs each weekday, along with BBC news, PBS favorites and classic films. Detroit Public TV is notably active in the community producing local programs that showcase arts, culture, news analysis and physical activity; and outreach campaigns that use the power of media to provide knowledge and understanding. Detroit Public TV is the only public television station in the Detroit market and Michigan's most watched public station, regularly viewed by some 1.5 million people in southeast Michigan each week. Additionally, DPTV is viewed by 1.2 million people per week throughout Canada via cable and Shaw Direct satellite-to-home. Detroit Public TV also manages WRCJ 90.9 FM, a listener supported non-profit public radio station licensed to Detroit Public Schools. The station is located inside the Detroit School of Arts, a public high school training young people for careers in performing, visual and media arts. 90.9 FM broadcasts classical music from 5 am to 7 pm each day and jazz overnight. Detroit Public Television is designated as a 501(c)3 organization. DPTV is licensed under the name Detroit Educational Television Foundation WTVS-Channel 56 in Detroit, and operates under the names DPTV, Detroit Public TV, Channel 56, WTVS and WRCJ.
