Starting out as a small purveyor of soaps and toiletries, Mentholatum grew rapidly to become a global health and wellness company with a strong reputation and emphasis on quality and value. In 1988, Rohto Pharmaceutical Company, Ltd acquired The Mentholatum Company. Rohto Pharmaceutical Company, Ltd was founded in 1899 in Osaka, Japan as a small family drugstore. The company was a pioneer in over-the-counter medicines and consumer healthcare products. Today, it is now the 2nd largest consumer healthcare company in Japan and a world leader in the manufacture and marketing of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, skin care, eye care, and health products. Rohto has operations in 12 major markets, with marketing and distribution agreements in more than 130 countries globally. Mentholatum Australasia Pty Ltd is part of the Rohto group of companies. Using a local distributor, the Deep Heat brand was first introduced to Australian consumers in 1956. In 1978 Mentholatum Australia was established and from our Australian head office based in Scoresby, Victoria, we now service a number of markets including Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and several Asian markets. All aspects of business are supported from the Scoresby site including TGA accredited manufacturing, regulatory affairs, marketing, sales and finance. Many of our brands hold market leading positions across a diverse range of categories including topical pain relief, skin care, hair care, lip care, laxatives, home pregnancy tests, dental care and nail care.
