National Bank was established in 1841 and became the first bank in the modern Greek state, with a decisive contribution to the financial life during these 175 years of history. Nowadays, National Bank leads one of the largest and strongest financial groups in Greece, with a presence in Southeast Europe and Eastern Mediterranean. National Bank of Greece has been a member of the ATHEX Derivatives Market since it was first launched, and is licensed as a Class-1 Market Maker. Until 1928, NBG enjoyed the right to issue banknotes in Greece. The NBG share is listed on both the Athens and New York stock exchanges.
