The GIANTS is an Australian Football Club, based at the WestConnex Centre in of Sydney Olympic Park. The GIANTS were established in 2008 before entering the national Australian Football League ahead of the 2012 season. In June 2016, the GIANTS were awarded a license to field a team in the AFL Women's competition, with the inaugural season beginning in February 2017. The GIANTS are led by CEO David Matthews and Head Coach Leon Cameron with prominent infrastructure and engineering services industry leader Tony Shepherd appointed as chairman. The AFLÕs commitment to Western Sydney brought about the $60 million redevelopment of the Sydney Showgrounds to become the GIANTSÕ home ground, Spotless Stadium. The GIANTS have also forged strong links with the Canberra community, playing a number of home games in the nationÕs capital and investing in a range of talent pathway initiatives as part of its PM Capital Academy program. The club has quickly established a deep link with the local western Sydney and Canberra communities through a range of community-based initiatives. The clubÕs community-focus was further bolstered in 2015 with the introduction of GIANTS Care Ð the major community initiative that will see the club double its community outcomes and further enrich the lives of people in western Sydney.Ê More broadly, the club has sustained a strong level of growth through the employment of engaged and passionate employees and with an absolute commitment to local communities. __On-field the GIANTS have made strong progress since joining the AFL, reaching a Preliminary Final in their maiden finals series in 2016. The GIANTS have recorded year on year membership growth with the membership record of 15,311 set in 2016 already surpassed in early 2017 with over 17,800 members signing up.
