Worthless

Update: Things seem to be running slightly better, but the lack of a developer website (the page 404's) and lack of any sort of portable API still makes this app and it's product feel very stale in a world of interconnected products. Would still advise skipping the USB device and getting used to the remote instead. Original review: Poorly designed application that doesn't conform to UI human interface standards. Setup process is difficult. Error messages are vague and not useful. And the worst part? It goes "offline" for extended periods of time. You have to do the entire setup process all over again to get it to work, and even then, maybe it works for a few days, or maybe only a few minutes. When it does work, it's fine. Besides settings menus that don't flow like they should, and an obnoxious animation when the unit is running, it works as expected. There is also no public API or interaction with any smart home platforms. You're locked into this app and cannot control it on any sort of useful schedule with any other platform. Basically, this feels like an application designed for an "Intro to iOS Programming" class done by amateur college student programmers. If this worked, I might would give this two or three stars. The "App Support" link on the App Store takes you to a URL that no longer exists. There is zero reliability to this app, and it just feels cheap. Don't waste your money on the dongle for your A/C - it's simply not worth the time or money.

Was using it wrong

Review update: I previously left a review for this app. I had a lot of problems with this app for a long time. I recently upgraded my network in my house to include a Netgear X10 router (previously I was using all Apple networking equipment). After I set up the air-conditioner again on the new router, I never had another issue with the software again. It connected every time and worked perfectly. I didn't give it five stars because I would still like it to log me in automatically, that is an unnecessary step every time you open the app. HomeKit integration would be great as well, but probably unlikely without a hardware Upgrade. Overall this app is now very functional, and the other one star reviews should look at what networking equipment they're using. Original review: This app, as other reviews have stated, has real issues staying connected. It's not quick or easy to connect this unit to the app. Once it's connected it works fine for its basic functionality of raising or lowering the temperature of your air-conditioner. I can't speak to other features because I don't care about anything other than the temperature. However the problem is that every few hours it says that the air-conditioner is offline. At that point the only way to get it to work again is to go through the entire process again, which involves picking up the remote getting it into pairing mode connecting it to your Wi-Fi entering the passwords and data, just to be able to control it again for a few hours. It would be great if this could ever work with HomeKit, or even just work as a standalone app without having to reconnect it all the time, but as it stands, if you're buying the air-conditioner with the intention of being able to control it remotely, then don't.

Offline most of the time...

Although it's great when it works, most of the time the unit is "offline" according to the app. Not sure if it's the app or the unit that is messed up. It's a great app when it works but I have pretty much given up on it because it's useless most of the time. Is there any way to have it "online" all the time?

Very disappointing

I have tried all of the apps released by GD Midea, not one of them worked with my EWK-06CW5. They all failed to connect thru my home wifi network. I found a instruction manual for the Smart WiFi option for Midea air conditioners. The manual gave instructions for using the NetHome app. Setup was a lot easier and it works very well. The only problem is that it doesn't have all of the features that NetHome Plus is supposed to have.
