War Child Uk
War Child was founded in 1993 in response to the war in the Balkans. Our belief remains the same today as it was then _ no child should have their life destroyed by war. Children do not start wars but their families, homes and schools _ the very things upon which they rely for support and safety continue to be destroyed by conflict. Children are not only at risk of being killed or injured but as communities flee and disperse, children often find themselves alone, traumatised, unable to continue their education and with no one to turn to. They risk being abused, exploited or recruited into armed groups; their childhood stolen from them in an instant. At War Child we understand these effects of conflict, which is why we focus our energies on helping and preventing the most vulnerable children from having their lives torn apart in the cycle of conflict, giving them a lifeline and a sense of hope for the future. Our teams work in some of the most volatile areas including Afghanistan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Uganda and in regions affected by the Syrian crisis. We keep children and young people safe and out of harmÍs way, get them back into school, and work with families and the community to get them back on their feet. In line with our strategy, our work fits into three themes: Protection, Education and Livelihoods. By addressing all three we're able to support children and their families in the short term as well as setting them up for a better long-term future. We've also identified three interventions or styles of working that are crucial. Within this matrix we make sure that in each country we're working in, we're doing a broad range of work.
