Since its founding in 1970, Institute of Technology Carlow has generated more than 50,000 graduates and currently ranks as the fourth-largest of IrelandÕs 14 Institutes. Learner enrolments have increased by 40% since 2011 to 7,000 current learners from across Ireland and 83 nations, with over 2,200 graduates annually.
It consistently features highly in the CAO (Central Applications Office) first preferences for Institutes of Technology. Institute of Technology Carlow has the highest percentage of Lifelong Learners in the sector, which reflects the commitment to providing educational opportunities for all. 14% of IT Carlow students were born outside Ireland and this increased diversity of the student population undoubtedly adds to the quality of the student experience. Since 2010, the number of post-graduate learners at IT Carlow has increased fourfold; the Institute now has the second highest percentage of postgraduates in the IoT sector. The research activities of the Institute focus around five core research groups inextricably linked to the Research and Commercialisation Support Centre. This centre supports enterprise and entrepreneurs in the south-east region, connecting them with cutting-edge research and expertise within the institute. Through liaising with agencies and organisations such as the Regional Skills forums at local, national and international level, the Institute has established itself as a strategic resource for the midlands and southeast regions.
Since 2012, Institute of Technology Carlow has carried out a Û150 million capital investment programme that has delivered the Centre for Aerospace Engineering, the Dargan Centre for Research and Innovation, The Haughton Building teaching and learning centre, and a multi-million Student Services and Sports Facilities Centre. Work has also begun on a 30-acre South Sports Campus with the first stage scheduled for completion in 2018. A further 42 acres have been acquired by the Institute for future growth in Carlow and Wexford.
Carlow, just 80 kilometres from Dublin, is one of the largest inland towns in the country and with its strong industrial base, makes an ideal choice for the location of an Institute of Technology Campus. Moreover, the close physical proximity of the Institute with Teagasc, Oak Park, makes the two organisations ideal partners for joint research collaborations. IT Carlow provides a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across a number of disciplines right up to NFQ Level 10 with many offerings available on a full-time or part-time basis through our Life Long Learning Department. Description:
Stratego is a board game. The objective of the game is to either find or capture the opponent's Flag, or capture so many of the opponent's pieces that he/she cannot make any further moves. Players cannot see the ranks of each other's pieces, so disinformation and discovery are important elements of the game.
